LazStar Trainer Shares Tips for ECommerce Success

According to a study conducted by Google, Temasek and Bain & Company, Indonesia’s eCommerce market is projected to reach US$90 billion this year, presenting enormous opportunities for online sellers.

But as opportunities grow in Indonesia’s eCommerce space, so does competition. To help sellers stand out, Lazada Indonesia recently invited LazStar Trainer Rika Yeo to share her tips and strategies for achieving success on the online platform.

Yeo is the award-winning owner of the Berry Baby store on LazMall, and she’s also an active consultant who focuses on helping MSMEs on their digitalization journeys. In her role as a LazStar Trainer, she reminds her fellow sellers to first focus on creating an attractive market-ready product and a detailed product listing that highlights the item. According to Yeo, a strong product page should include an informative title, high-quality photos and videos, a detailed description and a competitive price.

“Don’t rush to advertise before the product page is really ready,” Yeo said. “Make sure the products displayed are attractive so that potential buyers click on the product, buy and come back,” she added.

Yeo also emphasized the power of advertising, but added that it was important to monitor and optimize ads to ensure maximum results.

“Ideally, sellers should optimize their ads every one to two weeks to find out what strategies are working and what are not,” Yeo said. Regular monitoring and optimization can also help identify and minimize errors in product details, prices or ad settings.

“Sometimes, errors can be as simple as incorrectly determining the weight of a product, which can impact shipping costs and ultimately affect conversions,” Yeo explained.

Yeo said that it was also crucial for sellers to delve into the data gleaned from each advertising campaign so they can understand their customers’ needs and achieve long-term success.

“Data is key. Dive into the data to understand which audiences are most actively responding to ads. From there, sellers can design effective advertising strategies, not only to attract new customers but also to convert them into loyal customers,” Yeo said.

Beyond paid advertising, Yeo also encouraged sellers to explore different marketing tools to grow their business. For example, Lazada sellers can take advantage of features such as LazCoin, LazLive and promotions like Flexi Combi to drive traffic and conversions. The platform’s mega campaigns are also golden opportunities to increase sales.

Last but not least, Yeo highlighted the importance of continuous learning and pointed to Lazada University as an example of one of the many resources sellers can tap into. This online learning platform includes courses on a wide range of topics, ranging from data analytics to advertising strategies.

With these various resources, and with the continued support of Lazada, sellers are well placed to achieve sustainable growth and success.
