Lazada Indonesia and PT Smoot Motor Indonesia have joined forces to provide 100 electric motorcycles for the upcoming G20 Presidency of Indonesia. The electric fleet will be deployed to provide security as well as other operational support during the summit in November, where one of the key priorities will be to discuss the role of renewable energy in combating climate change.
In line with the event’s agenda, only electric vehicles powered by clean energy sources will be permitted in the Nusa Dua complex in Bali, where the summit will take place in November. Aside from having lower carbon emissions and producing less air pollution compared to conventional motorcycles, Lazada and Smoot’s electric vehicles also provide greater efficiency by allowing users to monitor battery usage through its app and also easily and quickly swap out depleted batteries for fully charged ones at hundreds of battery-exchange stations across Indonesia.
“We are delighted and honored to be able to take part in the G20 Presidency event,” said Lazada Indonesia Chief Logistics Officer Philippe Auberger during a ceremony on October 11 to present the electric motorcycles to the Bali police department. “The collaboration of Lazada and Smoot in providing a fleet of electric vehicles in the operational implementation of the G20 Presidency, especially the G20 Summit in Bali, is part of the effort to support one of the government’s priority agenda, namely the Sustainable Energy Transition. This is also in line with the spirit of Lazada and Smoot to promote the use of more environmentally friendly energy.”
The ceremony – also attended by Head of Bali Regional Police (Kapolda) Inspector General Putu Jayan Danu Putra S.H., M.Si, Head of the Bali Provincial Government Transportation Office I Gde Wayan Samsi Gunarta and PT Smoot Motor Indonesia CEO Irwan Tjahaja – took place at Lazada Logistics’ newly unveiled eco-hub in Bali. The facility features solar panels, automated LED lighting control, smart routing technology and eco-friendly packaging solutions, among other innovations that reflect Lazada’s investments in making its logistics operations greener and more sustainable. The eco-hub concept will also be rolled out across other Lazada Logistics facilities, including its main warehouse in Cimanggis, West Java.
The latest fleet of electric motorcycles and the eco-hub are part of Lazada’s ongoing push to creating a better and more carbon-neutral future. Since 2021, the eCommerce company has introduced various low-carbon vehicles, including electric motorcycles and cargo-bikes, in Indonesia in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint of its deliveries. It has also rolled out green packaging alternatives, energy-efficient routing, clustering solutions and other sustainable initiatives across other markets in Southeast Asia.
