Lazada Logistics Takes Steps to Reduce Carbon Footprint in Vietnam

Supply chain management has always been an important part of Lazada’s eCommerce operations. The company currently boasts Southeast Asia’s second-largest and most intelligent integrated logistics and supply chain network for digital commerce. Aside from building an effective and efficient logistics network, Lazada has also made it a key priority to ensure that its logistics ecosystem is eco-friendly and sustainable across the region.

In Vietnam, in particular, the company has made ample strides in making its logistics operations better for the planet. In 2017, Lazada Logistics piloted its very own fleet of electric bicycles in major urban hubs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with the aim to reduce delivery times and manage its carbon footprint. Starting this month, Lazada Logistics will begin using its 100-strong fleet of electric delivery motorbikes in the country as part of an initiative with Selex Motors, a Vietnam-based startup that develops electric vehicles. This partnership is especially important in contributing to the comprehensive development of Vietnam’s delivery industry.

“Lazada Logistics’ partnership with Selex Motors aims to pave the way for the adoption of more sustainable solutions by the wider transportation industry. With electric motorbikes from Selex Motors, we will create a more sustainable delivery fleet for Lazada Logistics in Vietnam, which is in line with our goal of managing our impact on the environment, including with efforts to decarbonize our last-mile delivery,” said Vu Duc Thinh, chief logistics officer of Lazada Logistics in Vietnam.

Lazada Logistics has also continued to introduce more environmentally friendly solutions across its supply chain. These measures include the use of recyclable and biodegradable packaging materials, investments in energy-saving solutions and more.

In November 2022, the company also partnered with AIESEC Vietnam, a youth-run, non-governmental and not-for-profit organization, to host the FUTUREWARDS. The program was designed for young talents to develop their skills and brainstorm innovative and practical ideas for the logistics industry. Teams from universities across Vietnam were tasked with presenting innovative solutions to real business cases involving eco-friendly packaging. Lazada Logistics Vietnam is currently working with the winning teams to put the presented solutions into practice.

“As part of our commitment to building up a sustainable logistics ecosystem, we are also looking for ways to encourage youths – the next generation of leaders – to be a part of the journey,” Vu said. “We are proud to have been a part of FUTUREWARDS, a playground to empower young talents to upskill and come up with creative sustainable solutions, and we look forward to participating in more initiatives like these.”
