Lazada Group this week released its third annual Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) Impact Report. Titled “Accelerating Innovation, Anchoring Resilience,” the report covers the eCommerce company’s ESG efforts and achievements across its six markets during the 2024 financial year.
“Our third ESG Impact Report continues to showcase our commitment to creating a positive impact on the environment and key stakeholders in the wider eCommerce ecosystem that includes our employees, buyers, sellers and the communities we serve,” said James Dong, Chief Executive Officer of Lazada Group. “Our confidence in Lazada’s future stems from our commitment to fostering long-term growth through continuous adaptation and resilience building. We remain focused on creating value for our stakeholders, driving economic prosperity and championing sustainable developments across the region,” he added.
Of special note in this year’s report is the internal platform Lazada developed to track and monitor its carbon emissions. By utilizing a continuously refined activity-based carbon-accounting methodology, the platform allows for more precise data accuracy, which in turn leads to more effective emissions management solutions. Based on the report, the introduction of this internal platform and the implementation of other business-optimization initiatives contributed to a 40% reduction in Lazada’s overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to the previous reporting period.
The reduction of GHG emissions reflects Lazada’s dedication to environmental stewardship, which is one of four core pillars of the company’s ESG framework. Under this pillar, the report also covered the launch of Lazada Thailand’s first eco-friendly logistics hub, which meets 20% of its electricity needs with solar energy.
The report also delved into the group’s accomplishments across its three other core pillars. As part of its commitment to empowering communities, the eCommerce platform has leveraged user-centric technical innovations to bridge the digital divide for shoppers and has also introduced new initiatives to empower small and medium-sized enterprises in Southeast Asia to embrace a more sustainable future. During the reporting period, the company also launched various training programs and modules to help shape a future-ready workforce, and it also strengthened its cybersecurity measures and intellectual property protection processes to ensure the effective governance of its digital ecosystem.
“Sustainability is a continuous journey, which should be managed holistically. As such, we believe in transparency and accountability when it comes to tracking and reporting on our progress,” said Gladys Chun, General Counsel of Lazada Group. “We are proud of the achievements that we have accomplished on this journey, as we strive to make positive and meaningful contributions to the wider eCommerce ecosystem, the communities we serve and the environment.”
