Young Entrepreneur from Vietnam Cooks Up Success with ECommerce

Trinh Trung Hau used to help his mother in the kitchen when he was young. He loved watching his mother skillfully prepare different dishes and then seeing the happiness of his family members as they enjoyed the delicious meals. Inspired by these fond memories of his mother, Trinh wanted to be able to bring the same happiness to others through cooking and eventually opened an online store that sells kitchenware.

To gain some work experience, Trinh took on part-time jobs during his college years and had a chance to work in different roles, including in accounting, logistics, sales, and marketing. These experiences gave him valuable knowledge about business operations, and in 2018 – when he was just 22 years old – he launched his own store, BamBam, on Lazada, choosing the platform for the support it provides to sellers as well as its easy access to a large consumer base.

“I decided to start small by importing kitchen products and selling them on Lazada. At the time, it cost me next to nothing to start a store on Lazada. I also gained access to a lot of insightful courses through Lazada University, which allowed me to quickly build up my trust in the platform,” Trinh said.

By leveraging Lazada’s various promotional tools, such as flash sales and mega campaigns, Trinh was able to achieve remarkable sales results within just one year of opening. During one of the most successful flash sales promotions that BamBam participated in, the store saw more than 400 orders a day – a 55% increase compared to regular days.

Since its opening, BamBam has grown into a thriving business. “As cliché as it may sound, I truly believe success can only be achieved with hard work and determination,” Trinh said. With an initial capital of just VND5.5 million (USD230), the young entrepreneur had to do almost everything himself when he first launched his store, including taking product photos, designing store banners, handwriting invoices, packing and managing deliveries. Today, he has more than 10 employees who help him at BamBam’s office and warehouse.

Trinh’s success as an eCommerce entrepreneur has also allowed him to spend more time with his family. “Owning an eCommerce business has given me a lot of flexibility with my time … This means a lot to me as a young father, as I can still have time with my wife and baby even during busy mega campaign periods,” he said.

To share his experiences and passion for eCommerce, Trinh decided to become a lecturer with Lazada as a way to inspire and help other sellers. Not only is he the youngest lecturer with Lazada University but he’s also an active member of the Lazada Vietnam Seller Club. He also has a YouTube channel, where he shares his passion for cooking as well as valuable lessons on running a successful online business.

“I still have a lot more to grow and learn,” he said. “I hope to spend more time with other young business owners like myself to find ways to contribute to society while taking care of my family.”
