As one of Indonesia’s largest express companies, Lazada Logistics has recognized the importance of taking concrete steps to reduce its environmental impact and to build a more sustainable future.
Over the past year, the company has rolled out several initiatives to reduce the carbon emissions from its operations. For example, in January 2022, Lazada Logistics introduced its Transfer Access Point (TAP) program, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of third-party logistics partners by encouraging them to leverage Lazada Logistics’ middle-mile infrastructure, including its trucking fleet and smart routing system. By using TAP, Lazada Logistics has been able to reduce more than 20,000 trucks from third-party logistics partners and has lowered carbon emissions by 3.3 million kilograms by the end of 2022.
In line with Indonesia’s national effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable mobility, Lazada Logistics has also rolled out low-carbon vehicles for last-mile deliveries. Its “blue vehicle” fleet consists of EV units and cargo-bikes that not only reduce carbon emissions but also improve operational efficiency.
The company has also made significant progress in reducing plastic waste. By implementing sustainable packaging practices, Lazada Logistics has reduced plastic usage by 70% in every parcel. Such practices have helped cut down more than 700,000 kg of plastic waste in a single year.
Lazada Logistics has also empowered other brands to contribute to sustainability issues. For example, the company recently partnered with outdoor activities products maker Eiger Adventure to adopt plastic-free packaging made with FSC-certified cardboard. All Eiger Adventure products ordered via Lazada also come with QR codes on the packaging that link to the two company’s ESG Impact Report. At the launch event to introduce this partnership, Eiger Adventure also introduced its Eiger Green Project, which features upcycled products that are available exclusively on Lazada.
“Lazada Logistics is committed to continuously driving positive change in the logistics sector through innovative and sustainable solutions, and these initiatives are testament to that commitment,” said Lazada Indonesia Chief Logistics Officer Philippe Auberger. “We are excited to expand the sustainability program across our operations and continue to lead the way in creating a greener and more efficient logistics landscape for a better tomorrow.”
