In an ongoing effort to operate more sustainably, Lazada Indonesia announced plans to install solar panels at its largest logistics facility. The company marked this clean-energy commitment by signing a solar release agreement with renewable energy company Inecosolar on September 25.
Through its collaboration with Inecosolar, Lazada will install solar panels with the capacity to generate more than 555,000 kWh of electrity per year at Lazada Logistics’ facility in Cimanggis, West Java. The solar panels are projected to reduce up to 400 tons of carbon emissions annually while meeting approximately 13% of Lazada’s warehouse electricity needs.
Lazada’s partnership with Inecosolar will support the Indonesian government’s target to increase the share of primary renewable energy in the country to 23% by 2025. It is also the latest initiative in Lazada’s ongoing commitment to create a positive environmental impact. The company has already installed solar panels at its Lazada Logistics hub in Bali, which was also the first eco-hub to implement more environmentally conscious operational practices. It has also started using automatic LED control systems for greater energy efficiency at its logistics facilities. Other eco-friendly efforts include the launch of electric bicycles for deliveries, the adoption of smart-routing technology and the use of environmentally friendly packaging materials.
“Our strong commitment to building a sustainable business and creating a positive impact follows our robust Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) framework,” said Lazada Indonesia Chief Logistics Officer Philippe Auberger. “We hope that our various steps and efforts, including the use of renewable energy with the installation of solar panels at many of our logistics facilities, can contribute to our goal of managing our environmental impact and setting the stage for greater sustainable advancements in the wider logistics landscape.”
